Yesterday I was in Hong Kong and checked one of the chinese IDNs i have, and my IE 7.0 beta 2 showed the parking page, no problem.

Today, I did the same thing in Shanghai, and it doesn't show. Does somebody has the same problem? Anyone knows anything about this, maybe a policy of blocking all Chinese IDNs within China?

Thanks,

PS: Just in case, i tested using 番茄酱.com
(ketchup)

番茄酱.com is a good name. 番茄酱.cn was regged Nov. 8, 2005.

Check if it is redirect to 番茄酱.cn. I know some telecom companies have attempted to redirect IDN.com to Dot CN, but I'm not sure if they're still doing it. Try go to some Net Bars or Western Coffee bars and try, different location is with different ISP. I hope you find out the reason.

I see what you mean. I went right there and checked for you suggestion, with .cn and worked just fine.
I tried other domains i own, and the same thing.

Maybe the ChiGov is doing something, like blocking the IDN.com within china (idn.cn you can access no problem). If somebody knows something about this, please share, because lots of chinese IDN portfolios are going to suffer big time.

thanks,

ChiGov is known to be blocking namedrive.com parked domains. Are you trying other domains?
Thanks for doing the field work for us. I'll PM you.

Mmm, maybe, but how come I can access namedrive.com's homepage and manage everything? They block only IDN (this format) xn--whatever.com parked on dns of namedrive? If they are, ChiGov is getting more and more sofisticated I think.

I'm trying to find out how valuable Chinese IDN .com are going to be, and if the ChiGov is gonna be that smart, I don't think these domains are going to be valuable at all (the 1.3BN market is gonna be out of reach).

Well, try this .cn domain parked in namedrive:
http://xn--xrxu09c.cn/

And try this .com domain parked elsewhere(silverclick):
家具.com
and c if you can access it.

NameDrive's homepage name servers: ns1.namedrive.com

Parked domains : fastpark.net

You can try my IDN.com parked with a Chinese Company http://www.模具.com

And another one with ND http://www.華夏.com

See what you'll get.

Kenne, I can access your .com no problem. Your .cn domain, couldn't access.

Giant, I accessed your first domain, but not the second one.

I guess we need somebody who's really inside of this to share some news about this issue. I believe it's becoming more critical as time passes by, otherwise our chinese idn.com domains will be worthless.

This is the proof that IDN.com is not blocked, but NameDrive is blocked even it's .CN.

Please read my post from another thread:

If they are blocking parked-domain sites and not IDN.com, then there's nothing we need to complain. Let me tell you why.

China is changing for the better, the country is developing very fast, the government is very busy serving the business sector, but is not doing enough to help ordinary people's daily life. The government strongly supports e-commerce and all types of web uses, but the ordinary people, especially the young and children are very vulnerable to online gambling and pornography which the government has no better way to deal with. So, the most economical and effective way to protect the innocents is block the gambling and porn sites' IP. Good job I should say!

so maybe it doesnt have anything to do with the tld, and something is messed up with namedrive, becuase it seems the ND domains are being blocked including both .cn's and .coms. Hopefully this is case, much better than the chinese govt interfering.

Interesting. I thing we can create more parking sites (like the one we're working on right now idnmarketplace.com) but ChiGov will keep blocking upcoming parking sites... so the only way i see is to actually host the pages. It'll be extremelly hard for them to block one by one, unless they do what they did with blogspot.com, and blocked the entire domain.

Can they technically block all the xn-- .com being accessed from chinese IP addresses?

Neptune, i really wish you're right so we don't have to worry about censorship or stuff like that.

Sometimes we think the ChiGov is doing more stuff than what they're really doing ;-)

Can someone from NameDrive confirm that so we call this thread closed?
