Arabic Traffic continues to trend up

Wondering if anyone else is seeing their Arabic traffic steadily climbing. I can now predict that many of our Arabic domains are on track to earn over $100 each this year at Namedrive. That being said, traffic is perhaps 1% of where it may be heading over the next 5 years. Russian traffic continues to be king, but nice to see Arabic really making a nice consistant showing month to month and growing.

Well for me Egypt is on terms with Russia and Kuwait with Japan, but Saudi is out on its own. Not from Libya lately though.

Thought I would share some of the more active active names and stats from May 1- May 15. Comments and corrections on translations by native speakers welcome. PPC has certainly improved on Arabic, seems it used to be only pennies, the best on this batch is .32. Welcome anyone else that might want to share their trends or stats as well.

I think IDNs are closer to boxing then to a marathon as they can and did start slowly, 11 years for 11 rounds? but either way in boxing there are only 12 rounds and everyone should remember a KO is possible at any given moment and then it's all over, just like that.

As long as we get a knock-out before the end of the 12th. Points decisions are normally rigged :o

FWIW, our Thai traffic is increasing at an alarmingly good rate, averaging 10% to 15% increase per *month* the last 8 months.

Long may it continue, hopefully to the 15th round and beyond. I love those old-style boxing matches that had "unlimited rounds". Now that was pugilism.

thanks, no i haven't. i have switch back and forth a couple times between adult black, and adult canvas. might give it a try. it always seems that as the CPC climbs the CTR drops. i noticed this happen on a few names.

A parked IDN generating $529.27 in a month, that's awesome and probably the highest revenue for a parked IDN. Hats off to you. I would think if you get this developed, you should at least be able to multiply income by 10-100 times.

I don't think you can actually calculate that. It depends on quite a few variables such as the popularity of the dotcom translit verisign applies for and the ratio of current visitors getting there (to Idn.com) by some sort of auto-complete. Keeping that in mind I would expect very different outcomes for different languages.

Interesting that .com in Hangul has a popularity of about 0 compared to .com in other languages. Perhaps, this is due to idn.kr being more popular than .com in Korea. There is no doubt that .公司 is the most popular if you plug it on Google Insight. Japanese is second and Thai is third. If Verisign looked at Insight then it makes sense for them to apply for .com alias in Thai in the first round. It is surprising that they confirmed Hebrew (which I think deserves to be in this round) but hasn`t explicitly confirmed that they will apply for Thai which has higher popularity compared to Hebrew.

At start? No change. I think people will not develop overnight habits they don't already have. Now, if Google, Youtube or Facebook start using idn.idn, that would be the holy grail notice I have been waiting forever.

When they announced the "for sure" candidates it was pretty obvious to me that their decision was based on current registrations (and not search stats). Have a look at the stats Mulligan posted and you know what I mean. Obviously they want the ones that cover the 185k application fee from year one. Let's hope that they take future potential into consideration as well. Then Thai (and Hindi) should be included.

Thanks bumblebee man. Yeah it's a chicken and an en egg catch 22 thing. If they just looked at current registrations, then it won't reflect the untapped market of non English speakers that well. I am sure that percentagewise, there are more Hebrew speakers who could speak English than Thai speakers who could speak English and hence many Thais who can't comprehend much English won't be following IDN news from ICANN, Verisign and other sources to have as many registrations. But even then as per Mulligan Stats in May 2011 (http://www.idnforums.com/forums/29269-breakdown-of-the-number-of-idns-currently-registered-in-com-net-org-info-biz.html), Thai IDN.com regs were 15,500 vs Hebrew at 18,885. Not so far behind then and it would be interesting to see the updated stats for 2012 since Thai IDNs appear to be going much more mainstream now.

Verisign really should be looking at the search stats. If they did then Thai would have been announced as a "for sure" candidate. Thai unlike Hindi is heavily used on the internet as Thais have been using Thai keyboards commonly for generations and search volume for key terms would reveal that it is much more widely used than Hebrew. Hindi keyboards on the other hand have not been widely used although I am sure mobile internet in India is changing things quickly. So here is to hoping that Verisign applies for Thai and Hindi in the first round as well.

Thai has increased it's foothold since May last year, up from 1.95% to 2.28% whereas Hebrew has fallen from 2.28% to 1.90% since May last year.
They have changed places.

So now both Google insight and idn.com reg stats show Thai ahead of Hebrew (19,169 vs 15,945), so hopefully this means that in the first round Verisign will consider and apply for Thai as a "for sure" rather than a "potential" candidate along with Hebrew which now has lesser regs.
