I have bid on so many names recently only to see them renewed at the last minute or even after auctions have ended a couple of days.

Same where. 99%. I think people do this
a) to amuse themselves
b) to evaluate the value of their domains and decide whether to renew or not
c) out of laziness

Two days ago won xn--c1abnveiv.com to find it renewed after the auction was over.

This happens 99% of the times for me lately. Thinking of giving up on this, totally waste of time.

I think finally someone put 2+2 together and realize this was a great way to use historic whois data...
