14 bids from 5 bidders - someone is gonna win this and realize that they have been royally f*cked !! Sedo are nothing more than a scam artist !!

I don't think Sedo is the scam artist, it clearly says it's an IDN.

The problem is....it portrays legitimate IDNs, in a bad Light.
A few bad apples...you know the story.

jose

It has 2.580 Google results. They are valid Cyrillic letters that look like "SEO".
IMHO, the seller, or SEDO, should be obliged to post in red letters.

This domain is NOT seo.com
This domain is xn--e1as1e.com

Otherwise the buyers are being mislead!

Now, if the buyers know what they are buying, I have nothing against it.
Its a free world, you buy what you want to buy. Some can be collectors.

I don't think Sedo is the scam artist, it clearly says it's an IDN.

Sedo needs to provide more information. In the section that says, "Important Notice: This is a Multi-Lingual (IDN) Domain. Technically you are acquiring the domain xn--e1as1e.com", they need to add something like:
The characters of this domain are:
Cyrillic small letter dze
Cyrillic small letter ie
Cyrillic small letter o

That information won't hurt the sales of legitimate IDNs, but will help naive buyers avoid scams.

I am so tempted to register the following ...

ѕеdо.com
xn--d-itb2a8f.com

And see if Sedo will allow the auction to run.

Sedo is not in the business of linguistics. It is in the business of domains. Checking for "real language" status of each of these domains is a lot of work, and might not be perfect.

One thing they could automate is to require all the characters in an IDN match the language(s) it is set to, and display that language on the sale/auction page.

Right now their search by language feature seems pretty pointless.

But that might take a few days of work.

Ok, this is getting out of hand.

Go to SEDO and order ALL the current auctions by # of bids:

есо.com 1,130 USD 36
agdi.com 360 USD 19
арр.com 800 USD 17
1un.com 181 USD 14
аѕѕ.com 600 USD 13

50% is s*. Guess which ones? This will make news soon...

Every time I go to the Sedo page, the 1st thing I see is the featured domains section which invariably includes some of these crap domains. Sedo + illiterate and moronic buyers=disaster

How about if we start a petition?

http://www.change.org/start-a-petition

1. Who do you want to petition?
SEDO

2. What do you want them to do?
Stop the IDN look-a-like misleading sales.
or
Take action and change the escrow proceedings, making sure the question "Are you aware the domain you are buying is not seo.com?" is asked and responded affirmatively!

3. Why is this important?
IDNs will have a big role on the future of domains names and this is undermining their credibility.

The problem is: if Sedo reacts at all they will only come up with more stupid warnings for all IDNs:

WARNING: THIS IS AN MDM. MDMs ARE ILLEGAL AND WORTHLESS.

If you think Sedo will ever be able to distinguish between good and bad ones you don't know Sedo very well.

If the buyer responds affirmatively to the question "Are you aware the domain you are buying is not seo.com?" then I have no issues with it.

Either he is a complete fool or he knows what he's buying. In either cases, I am ok with the sale.

Yeah, that's what you would do. They might just as well ban IDN altogether.

It looks like due to Jose's activism, we risk loosing a valuable IDN marketplace. Nevermind the garbage domains, what Jose proposes is to brand all IDNs as bad. Pretty stupid really.

Why don't you start a blog or something? Just rail on Sedo and Ebay, grow a neckbeard and then rally around the NYSE spreading the word to the protesters. Grassroots, man. Grassroots!

There you go. But it has to be one people will see. The white house is taking petitions here: http://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions

I am always wrong, either I complain about these SEDO auctions or I don't.

No, I am not saying you are wrong. Just sometimes you go about things the wrong way. If you want your voice heard, there are many ways of getting that done without relying on Ascii domainers that don't care about IDN. That's all.

I now own this domain, I really like it, but understand it takes someone "unique" like myself to see the value/use in the name.

Now just have to get Google to turn off the warning message and it will be much easier to use.

Welcome to the Forum.
Did you know it was a 'mixed script' IDN domain when you bought it?
These mix script IDNs have been very controversial for the last 20 years since inception of IDN as some have sold them to unknowingly cheat others.
Sedo has not been transparent in the sale of these.
