Сборная России was pretty impressive. If they continue to play like that they could even be a title contender.

Can't wait for Germany to enter the tournement. It's time to bring home the trophy. WC 2002: 2nd, WC 2006: 3rd, Euro 2008: 2nd, WC 2010: 3rd. The current team is stronger than all those previous ones and they are playing some brilliant stuff. Defence is a little shaky but we can outscore ANY opposition.

Football Happiness at its best....

Ukraine fans delirious about a national hero stepping up to the stage with
2 rapid world class headers after being down a goal, at a
First appearance in a Euro tournament by the country ever, on home soil.

granted I am not expecting Ukraine to win the tourney.... but it is really great to watch a nation have a great collective sports moment ...

Swedes had their chances...

Ukraine/German/Irish headers have been top notch...

Interesting to watch England play the back line like Germans.
Low expectations is a boon so far. Hopefully Rooney in game 3 will be memorable for his cap record.

Interesting to watch Spain w/o a striker at all.

Nice to see Italy and France at least returning to reasonable Euro level form.

England beats Ukraine 1-0 to advance at Euro 2012
By ROB HARRIS | The Associated Press –

DONETSK, Ukraine (AP) Wayne Rooney returned from suspension Tuesday and scored on a header in the 48th minute to give England a 1-0 victory over Ukraine and a spot in the European Championship quarterfinals.

England won Group D and will next face Italy in Kiev on Sunday.

England and PK's..... the footie gods simply will not smile on the 3 Lions after 120 minutes..

The battle for Iberia should be a nice match.
Germany getting 48 hours more rest than the Azurris seems very unfair.

A Spain / Germany final should be fascinating, since German play is unlikely to let the Rojas keep possession at 60% +++.

As I predicted, Portugal is out.

They were pretty close though. Portugal can be proud of their team.

I agree that beating England on penalties would be a classic but I prefer Italy in the semis for 2 reasons:

- I want a real challenge
- revenge for 2006

35 minutes in...and one of your wishes has come true ;-)

Well I didn't expect that - Well done Italy - they could have won by a few more goals if their players ( apart from Mario ) knew how to shoot !

:D

Needless to say I could live with that outcome.

So England only just lost on penalties against Italy. Whereas Italy handed Germany their arse on a plate.

Auf wiedersehen

This end tippling a bottle of Chianti through the second half, but cursing BT for not being able to give us an even half decent picture.

Glad we emigrating to CZ at back end of the year! At least we might get a half decent TV signal.

Yeah, whenever our team plays Italy or comes close to silverware they all seem to turn into a bunch of sissies. This is annoying because unlike England they can do a lot better.

BTW: Is England looking for a new manager?

Yes, ours cannot even do bloody meetings!

Perhaps we could have Mario Monti once he has finished as Caretaker for Italy?

Why? His remit for this championship was to make the quarter-finals...that's the best we could hope for really.

We're still within the timescale to be able to blame Capello for this one :)

I was expecting Germany to play better in the 2nd half , but Italy beat them soundly.

Also, I hope that the Sp/ IT match is not decided at 120 with PK's .
Finals should be played with 15 minute periods extra times, no golden goal.

If players pass out, so be it, at least a team that is most fit can hoist the trophy from a gurney....

congrats glow...
what a great team display today...

the next Euro is going to have 24, with a round of 16.
Sad to change the format, for the cash.

although Denmark, Croatia, Ukraine, Poland played well...
Can one really say there are 8 teams absent that really should have been there this year ?

In terms of 'long knives', it would seem that the Dutch need the lash.

A Brazilian friend emailed me that he is distressed that the Pele led teams are losing their perch as the greatest team of history.

I wrote him to worry about Uruguay, since they won the world cup in Rio the last time ....(grin...)
