I think the only way to let us see the potential in IDNS is to make a site that is visually promoted by the native Japanese IDN
We were lucky the otherday to pick up the Japanese term グラビアアイドル.com (http://www.グラビアアイドル.com)
Now this term is not in most dictionaries & if you are not in Japan you wouldn't realize what it is.
It's the most common term for Japanese bikini models or idols It's pronounced Gravia idol or literally Gurabia idol
What we did was buy the .com also in romaji www.gurabiaidol.com (http://www.gurabiaidol.com)
The easiest thing for us to do is to create a site with the romaji (Roman text) as the main domain name but visually only write it as グラビアアイドル.com Then we use the IDN to forward to the site.
We'll see approximately how many people keep coming back using the idn name opposed to those who come to the regular .com
This term gets 1,222,613 searches a month in Overture Japan...
So if we put up a bikini girl gallery, directory, & maybe bbs theoretically it should be a high traffic site.
