Just got back from McDonalds and they have an IDN displayed at the end of one of their recruitment ads on the TV screens they play inside the "restaurant". IDN was www.加入麦当劳.com

Surely these IDN thingies would only be useful if the natives don't read English?

no one in china reads or understands english from what i have read, even academics barely speak it.

in some chinese ads english words occasionally pop up but i thinks it's not used to deliver a message but because it looks western, modern and trendy.

I guess if you are English speaking resident of Shanghai then you don't actually need to flip burgers for a living.

Or perhaps they were just trying to keep the information from the attention of their exclusively English speaking Clientel.
