Firstly, some IDN's won't be proceeding any further...

Consequently, the GAC advises the ICANN Board to:

not proceed beyond Initial Evaluation with the following strings: .shenzhen (IDN in Chinese), .persiangulf, .guangzhou (IDN in Chinese), .amazon (and IDNs in Japanese and  Chinese), .patagonia, .date, .spa, .yun, .thai, .zulu, .wine, .vin

Secondly, it's probably going to be quite some time before we get any further down the road with any of them...

the GAC advises the ICANN Board that:
i. the 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement should be finalized before any new gTLD contracts are approved.

This agreement is either going out to comment or the existing comment periods will be extended.

Is their any chance that we can shut the fuck up about BitCoins and focus on ensuring that Verisign cannot make abusive use of registering audibly identical strings which have not gone to string contention because that was not part of the process of initial evaluation?

There Is a significant risk that not only do we risk losing everything apart fro the odd Bitcoin investment, but also that due to ICANN incompetence that every consumer in in Asia will be subject to significant phishing risk.

Yes there is a risk of delay, but it is more important to get it right, and it is possible that even delays will not deliver a favourable result.

Ou voice is being drowned out by English speaking vested interests. We all need to make one last effort to get the message across.

being drowned out by English speaking vested interests.
----------

this is precisely the point.....
IDN's are tools for people in the languages at issue.

The whole idea that English dominated firms or organizations bully ICANN is reprehensible.

Verisign needs to show their cards this summer in any event.

re: GAC
the trademark issue has and will always be a canard.

dot info, dot mobi, and the dot co prove the lawyers are full of shit.
