ICANN Board Rejects .XXX TLD in 9-to-5 Vote

Marina del Rey, Calif. - In a 9 to 5 vote, the Board of Directors of ICANN, the International Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, today rejected the ICM Registry application that would have established a voluntary .XXX top-level domain (TLD).
The voting broke down as follows:
Directors For .XXX:
Veni Markovski,
Susan Crawford,
Peter Dengate Thrush,
Joichi Ito, and
Mouhamet Diop.
Directors against .XXX
Vint Cerf (Chairman),
Alejandro Pisanty (Vice-Chairman),
Raimundo Beca,
Demi Getschko,
Hagen Hultzsch,
Njeri Rionge,
Vanda Scartezini,
Paul Twomey (President and CEO)
Hualin Qian.
