Registry agreement for شبكة. has been signed, apparently...

http://www.circleid.com/posts/20130714_ari_registry_services_powers_first_new_top_level_domain/

It was # 3 in the priority list, so that shows that being ready to sign a contract gives you queue-jumping ability.

Just checking the application status, if you pull out all the applications that have hiccups, Verisign's get a lot closer to the top of the list...

9. .大拿
15. .कॉम
19. 닷넷
23. .नेट
34. .คอม

So you never know, we may see some Verisign contracts announced in the next few days.

On the opening day of ICANN47 Durban, ICANN signed the first four Registry Agreements with new gTLD applicants. This is a historic moment in the New gTLD Program, which is drawing ever nearer to delegation of the first new gTLDs and the upcoming expansion of the Internet.

All four signed Registry Agreements are for the operation of Internationalized Domain Names (IDN). Two of the Registry Agreements are for strings in Cyrillic, one in Arabic and one in Chinese. Once these and other IDN strings are delegated and become operational, it will mark the first time that people will be able to access and type in a website address for generic Top-Level Domains in their native language. This will expand the Internet not just in the number of generic Top-Level Domains available, but also in the overall accessibility for all people across the globe.

Also, http://blog.icann.org/2013/07/2013-raa-and-rya-signings-kick-off-icann-47-in-durban/

I suspect the 2 Cyrillics are .онлайн and .сайт since CORE have been trying to get some gTLD's since before ICANN existed.

Not sure which one would be the Chinese one.

I'm not used to this pace with IDN developments.

This is the most excited I've been since 2005. Sad.

Donuts, ARI Services and CORE this morning became the first new gTLD applicants to sign registry contracts with ICANN.

The ceremonial signing took place live on stage at the opening ceremony of ICANN 47, the week-long public meeting in Durban, South Africa.

ARI CEO Adrian Kinderis signed on behalf of شبكة. applicant International Domain Registry. The string is Arabic for “.web” and transliterates as “.shabaka”. It is 3 in the program’s evaluation queue.

In an ARI press release, Go Daddy CEO Blake Irving confirmed that Go Daddy will carry .shabaka.

Donuts CEO Paul Stahura signed for .游戏, the Chinese-language “.games”, which had prioritization number 43.

It was not immediately clear which contracts Iliya Bazlyankov, chair of CORE’s executive committee, signed. CORE has applied for three internationalized domain name gTLDs with high priority numbers.

(UPDATE: Bazlyankov has been in touch to say: “We signed the .сайт (site) and .онлайн (online) contracts which had numbers 6 and 9 in the priority”.)

Representatives of Go Daddy, MarkMonitor, Momentous, Mail Club and African registrar Kheweul.com also joined ICANN CEO Fadi Chehade on stage to sign the 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement.

The event marks the beginning of the contract signing phase of the new gTLD program, an important milestone.

For applicants without outstanding objections, contention or Governmental Advisory Committee advice, signing a contract means only pre-delegation testing and the final transition to delegation remains.

Considering .游戏 has priority #40, it seems that Verisign could announce a slew of contract signings all at once, including .คอม

Another LRO has just been decided - Amazon bitchslapped the objector for .tunes basically for an extremely weak trademark attempt.

http://www.wipo.int/export/sites/www/amc/en/domains/lro/docs/lro2013-0065.pdf

Hanging out here for a decision on .ком it would be nice if Verisign could sign that contract in its first batch. :^)

That's more in line with what we idners are accustomed to with the IDN development.

Don't forget VeriSign want to delay the new gTLD process in its entirety. They are hardly going to jump in and sign contracts now are they .....

Yes, but as Verisign is not a party to the vast number of contracts in the offing, they are hardly the direct cause of a lack of signatures. Even then they are unlikely to put their selves at a competitive disadvantage over the theoretical risks from the programme as a whole. It is unstated, but they might well push for an IDN then pause approach, which would actually suit them very nicely. As IDN are already at the front of the queue they need not even be explicit but keep trying to cap overall numbers. They have already said they are fine with 20.

And the IDN ones aren't the ones that threaten stability.

Ah, 天主教 and ストア
Very useful information, thank you TrafficDomainer.

天主教 is Chinese, does that mean the first signed new GTLD is Chinese domain name by ICANN, am I right?

#3 Arabic شبكة. was the first to sign even they were priority #3 but they were the first that was ready to sign so they jumped the queue ahead of #1 and #2 from my understanding.

Wasn't it true (from listening to Beijing conference in April) that new gTLD applicants got to choose whether to:

a) (fast track) sign the "standard contract" with ICANN, or
b) (slow track) enter negotiations with ICANN about a "customized" contract. From what I remember, this guaranteed a minimum delay of 60 days.

If that is true, presumably anyone already signed has just gone for the "standard contract"?

The "big boys" like VeriSign are busy negotiating custom contracts for all their TLDs?!?!

Any way to find out whether companies have signed the standard contract?

I see from the Durban "New gTLD Program Timeline" that "Contracting" lasts all the way from July 2013 to December 2013, so it does indeed look like some applicants will enter into lengthy contract negotiations with ICANN. But presumably they can still do all the pre-delegation testing etc. simultaneously so hopefully shouldn't slow things down ........... but how many times have we said that.

Can't see VeriSign have signed any contracts yet. My guess is they will be last or near last signing, and in one massive clump.

General Availability has started today. شبكة. is now open for everyone...

So, where the hell is Verisign? Still afraid of a [Put your letters here]-Group?
