Hello

Out of the top ALaxa 1st million ( http://s3.amazonaws.com/alexa-static/top-1m.csv.zip ) there is none .中国 domain.

There is a few russian idn.idn like http://xn--80abucjiibhv9a.xn--p1ai/
but no chinese.

I see that many .中国 domain are just redirectong to a latin domain name.

What are the reasons why .中国 are not used ?

Maybe starting a list,
-> Price difference between .cn & .中国

Any other idea ?

The Chinese have yet to accept IDN over Pinyin or numbers.

That said I have noticed that quality IDN.cn / 中国 are getting picked up via drops by Chinese domainers.

Well there are many functioning dot 中国 domain names

https://www.google.co.uk/#psj=1&q=site:.中国

Some sites do redirect to ascii names but there are many which integrate the IDN correctly.

Whilst looking at this I did find an interesting redirect — http://北京消防.中国/ redirects to their Sina Weibo. It actually does it with 2 redirects: Frame & Meta Refresh. But that is not my main point. The important point is that Sina Weibo is huge and if it becomes common practice to redirect IDNs to Weibo then it will raise awareness of IDNs.

Chinese prefer Pinyin and number domain names since nobody invents the keyboard printed by Chinese characters :-D
