VeriSign PR piece. Not sure when this came out, but dated 2014. Link at bottom.
Good new is VeriSign is staying the course for existing .com and .net to get the equivalent .com and .net for existing registrations.

QUOTE: Open a world of opportunity with new customers, new registrations, and expanding web services.
VeriSign Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) enable businesses to say .com and .net in local language characters. It’s a friendlier, more meaningful way to connect with customers.

So for now, is it just the 9 .com transliterations and the 3 .nets ??

Considering the trouble they are having even getting those approved, even that is ambitious.

No doubt they will do a wider roll-out when the there is direction and certainty to the process.

But my understanding is that this will happen and probably pretty soon. If things were really going badly there would be a public debate rather rather than this rather unsettling wall of silence.

To my surprise ICANN is still processing applications through the summer, general between 3 and a dozen per week. That is amazing dedication from ICANN who normally just chill out for about 3 months.
