that was a purely defensive reg with a lot of geos. they will never use them.

i think they are serious but in practice little will happen. i think what could happen is that smaller foreign registries get banned. so don't invest in things like .co etc.

These are old TLDs which was operated by CNNIC for a longest time before even new gTLDs. They have yet to port all their names over to the new gTLD and when they do, they are likely to be in the top 5

I had not thought about the 公司 and 网络 TLDs that exist under the MII root. Years ago I used to access them by using http://cesidianroot.net
