I am a facebook newbie so I am still trying to understand the system.

When I compose a facebook post in the facebook "Create post" an IDN is displayed correctly eg http://중부대학교.한국

But when I save the post, facebook displays the IDN as punycode http://xn--9d0bw1in6jn4lh3o.xn--3e0b707e/ in the post

Anyone any idea how to fix this or am I stuck with it.

Strangely, when I go onto the facebook community forum, IDNs are handled correctly and are displayed in Unicode and not punycode. Facebook also correctly linkifies the IDNs in the community forum.

TIA

Off the top, it could either be lazy homoglyph attack protection, whereby everything consumer facing is punycode,
or
it could be that for the same reason, only IDNs in your interface language are displayed in unicode.

Good Luck

Thanks for your thoughts. Subsequent to your post, I tried the following:

① I set my "Preferred language for displaying pages" in my browser preferences to Korean
② Changed my facebook interface language to Korean
③ Changed the interface language of my browser to Korean

None of the above made any difference. The Korean Domain Names still display as punycode

I then decided to comment on one of JoongBu University 중부대학교 facebook posts https://www.facebook.com/joongbu/posts/2749198061780629 in which I put their Korean Domain Names but again facebook converted from Unicode to punycode and displayed the punycode form.

I used to have same problem with spanish/portugiese idns.
But I don't use facebook anymore for a couple of years; It really sucks for everything, why use it anyway?

Thanks. That indicates it is an issue that affects all facebook users and not just my account. I have now formally reported it as a bug to facebook. I will also file it as an issue at https://uasg.tech/global-support-center

The more people that pursue such IDN problems, the more likely it will be resolved. I encourage all of you that are facebook users to formally report to facebook, that the displaying of IDNs as punycode instead of Unicode is a bug.

It's great that IDNs work fine on the Facebook community forum and are linkified correctly. You might want to check your language and region settings, or try posting from a different device to see if that makes a difference.
