Google sells shares of competitor Baidu in China

Well, they clearly don't need the cash, so it would appear to be political.

I like the comment 'We have disposed of our
modest investment in Baidu'. I guess they
wanted the news to go relatively unnoticed...
In any event, I think this may be 'positioning' on
Google's behalf that could well mean something
in the world of Chinese search.

This is a bad sign for Baidu.
Yes, you could be right. It looks as though Google may be repositioning themselves to devour something else. Who knows what that will be Sina, Sohu or 3721 could be likely targets. Longer term it means that Baidu are going to be facing very serious competition.
