The number of registered .cn domain names has topped 1 million for the first time, according to the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), which oversees the administration of the top-level domain for China.

At the end of December, nearly 1.1 million domain names had been registered under the .cn top-level domain, CNNIC said in a statement. That represents an annual increase of 154 percent and makes the .cn top-level domain the largest in Asia and the sixth-largest in the world, it said.

Citing statistics from October 2004, CNNIC said China had 74 million IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4) addresses in use, surpassing the U.K. and making China the third-largest country in terms of the number of IPv4 addresses used. Only the U.S. and Japan use more IPv4 addresses, it said.

In July, China had 103 million Internet users, according to CNNIC. At that time, there were 622,534 registered .cn domains, it said.

CNNIC is expected to release its latest Internet numbers, including the number of Internet users in China, later this month.

Not sure about the IP address I think you will find UK has a lot more, but China is now about on par with Germany.

第三届中国互联网络地址资源注册服务机构大会在阳朔召开


为了进一步促进我国互联网地址资源的普及与发展，2006年1月11日，中国互联网络信息中心（CNNIC）在桂林阳朔举办了第三届中国互联网络地址资源注册服务机构大会。来自全国各地以及北美、欧洲和东亚地区的100多家CNNIC注册服务机构代表参加了本次大会，共同就中国互联网地址资源的管理、服务、推广经验及应用发展前景进行了充分沟通与交流。

本次大会得到了国家信息产业部电信管理局、中国科学院计算机网络信息中心、广西省通信管理局等一系列主管部门的支持。信息产业部电信管理局发展规划处副处长谢存、广西自治区通信管理局处长陆云、中国科学院计算机网络信息中心总工、 ICANN理事钱华林研究员等领导专家在会上一一发言，对中国互联网络信息中心（CNNIC）多年来为促进中国互联网地址资源普及与发展所做出的贡献给予了充分地肯定，并对未来如何加强我国网络发展提出了新的要求与期望。

中国互联网络信息中心（CNNIC）主任毛伟在会上做了主题报告。毛伟表示2005年CNNIC在技术创新、客户服务和业务推广方面都有了显著提高。2005年CN域名获得突破性发展，截止至2005年12月底，注册量首次超过100万，达到109万个，和去年同期相比，增长了153.5％，成为亚洲最大的国家顶级域名，世界排名从年初的13位上升到全球第6位。 CN域名已经成为用户的首选域名。另外在信息产业部的统一领导和部署下，CNNIC目前已完成四个CN域名顶级节点的升级部署，国家顶级域名解析服务系统的战略性调整已露雏形。CN域名解析速度更快，安全更有保障，改善了我国互联网络基础设施使用性能。

截止到2005年10月，中国大陆 IPv4地址数已达7365万个。在全球有限的IPv4地址数量中，中国IP地址拥有量已超过英国，仅次于美国和日本，位居世界第三。在中文域名技术研发方面，CNNIC积极推动国际互联网界在技术方面支持多语种域名，取得了一系列成果。中文域名作为趋势性的互联网地址资源获得了更广泛的认同，注册量也有了新的突破。

毛伟表示，作为我国互联网络地址资源的注册管理机构， CNNIC将继续保障我国互联网地址系统的顺利运行，在稳定和提高服务质量的同时，力争在各项互联网地址资源服务推广方面实现新的突破。

此次会议， CNNIC表彰了2005年度优秀注册服务机构。CNNIC通过注册服务机构评价体系，分别就注册数量、注册服务质量等方面，对注册服务机构进行评定，最终评选出CN域名、中文域名及通用网址金牌注册服务机构各5家，海外优秀注册服务机构4家，另外有6家注册服务机构获得最佳进取奖。

在2006年新春即将到来之际， CNNIC还将有一系列新举措出台，包括对于目前的.CN域名价格政策进行重大调整、全面推动包括通用网址和中文域名在内的“中文上网”工程，以及继续加强和规范国内网络地址资源行业的注册服务等。参加本次会议的代表纷纷表示，将同CNNIC一道，为进一步推动中国互联网络发展，为中国互联网迎来更美好的明天而付出不懈努力。
