What is your mother tongue - native language?

Only languages above 100 million speakers are in the above list, and polls are limited to 10 choices.

So, I appologize if your language was not included. Please post and share with us.

Thank you.

I did not combine languages into categories because of political issues. Someone might not appreciate their language being grouped with another one, despite linguisitic similarity or regional closeness. Also just putting up something like Hindi and Indic languages is not as good as listing all the Indian languages. But in what order? By number of speakers seems fair. I've thought about this issue a lot and I'm still fine tuning my methodology of this, just like ICANN.

Yes. These sorts of things have been debated for centuries by diplomats, which is why the order of precedence anywhere in the world for ambassadors is by date of appointment.

Since languages and writing scripts are an important way of asserting identity, we have to be very careful with them.

Native language is German, but I've been writing and speaking English fluently for 30 years.
