文化 is the more common term for culture, as in arts, music etc.

Guess the term is the same for both japanese and chinese, unlike another term "风俗". :p

BTW, does the term "教養" carry any stigma for the Japanese? Like if i ask IDNer if he has any "教養", he won't be too delighted.

I don't have a good feel for 教養 , but it's less common and perhaps has more academic and educational connotations. I did find some cases where the two terms are used interchangably.
