As no one yet knows exactly of the solution to the tld..(dname,ns root etc)

i.e com will be קום or ком

as for .tv, i understand tv as the english term tv is widely used in asian countries
but what do u think will happan when they "map" it...will there be a .tv in foreign languages (i.e тв ) or will they just leave it as english .tv etc...

Thanks,

Michael

P.S please confirm .tv is really used in asian countries..

Well, i am not totally sure, as i am not from Asia, but as far as I know, if you check overture in japan for example
you will see really huge results with combinations with "Japanese Characters + tv"

I think it's been confirmed in multiple threads that "tv" is used extensively in Japan and China.

As for what will .tv map to, no one knows yet and anything else is just speculation.

You need to talk to the government of Tuvalu.

What's Tuvalu in Chinese? Is there a shortened form used?

Well .tv does has no connotation to tuvalu for a long time (end user wise)
and i think we all agree an ascii .tv that matches the extension has enormous value.

But as u suggested... .tv is the tld for tuvalu and thats exactly what i would like to get opinions on (as tuvalu has nothing to do with japan, russia etc) so will it just stay as TV or any chance will be literally translated to what tv=in other language...

then there is another concern..if tv remains untouched...will it be valuable AFTER whatever is used for idn.idn is implemented

A ccTLD CANNOT give it's ownership rights to anyone else. It's sovereign.

Perhaps Verisign has a management contract, but I can tell you now that if that ccTLD tried to choose IDN strings that meant "television" instead of "Tuvalu", there would be a VERY LOUD outcry in the Internet community.

.tv sold to a company called dotTV (the .tv domain name)

"the world’s third poorest country, Tuvalu, sold its dot tv internet domain name to a US company for $25 million. Tuvalu"

Agreed!

.tv can only map to .[tuvalu], not .[television].

I suspect that's just incorrect reporting.

then it makes .tv depreciate unless its the most common used term for television in short in whatever language is discussed

.tv has value only in Latin extention, not mapped to other languages.

Agreed.

.tv will most likely be used as IDN.tv and not IDN.IDN. I don't really think that diminishes the value that much. Like was said before, the Japanese and Chinese know what "tv" is and won't have much of a problem typing those in. IMO

Again, 英雄所见略同 (Great minds think alike) :)

Even .com is more valuable in Latin extention, IDN.IDN is only to add more convenience to some users but .IDN cannot and will not replace .Latin.

"In Japan the nickname for digital mobile TV is written in Katakana: ワンセグ (pronounced wansegu). Japanese people love to abbreviate - oneseg is short for One Segment. Why?

The reason is technical: digital TV is broadcast in certain radio frequency channels. Each TV station (e.g. NHK, Fuji-TV, TBS etc) uses one particular 6 MHz wide frequency channel for digital TV broadcasts. Each channel is divided into 14 segments, and one segment is used for digital TV to mobile phones, while the other remaining 12 segments are used for high-definition digital TV, while the 14th segment is used as a buffer between adjacent channels to avoid interference."

Vietnamese Language:

TV (pronounced tivi), phông for font. Sometimes these borrowings are calques literally translated into Vietnamese (phần mềm for software, lit. soft part).

Media scholars call the Japanese theworld’s “most enthusiastic” TV viewers, and for decades the Japanese have been watching more and more television each year. Various polling and ratings services agree that the individual Japanese viewer now watches TV for an average of just over four hours a day.

"In 1998, Tuvalu sold the management rights of its suffix to a Californian company, dot-TV Corporation. Now, dot-TV Corporation has resold the management rights to VeriSign for US$ 45 million."

Key phrase "management rights" NOT ownership.

Again, key phrase "rights to MANAGE".
