I guess most major companies will know right away once IDN is released and they wouldn't be typos ............ so no?

Like Foreign Companies?

Why would you want to when there are probably thousands of decent generics left?

Type-in do not translate into $$$ for japanese domains. My Asahi.com has lots of type-in, but zero revenue.

Asahi is a generic name, there is Asahi Weekly, Asahi Breweries, Asahi glass, Asahi Kasei, Asahi tv, Asahi broadcasting, Asahi Agency, Asahi University, Asahi Thermofil, many others. This is the "dream" company name to have, but revenue is still zero.

So you are getting type-in traffic from the "asahi.com" site. That is fantastic. But what kind of monetization page do you have set up? I just tried it with a firefox browser but only got a repeated "server not found" message. :o

You own it in katakana right?
I believe guys that we have to expect a high return from PPC & really have to think about development or sales to the right person.

I registered one in french just to test the traffic. And holy cow does it get traffic. But it's just way to much stress for me. Now I can't get rid of it, and I am waiting for the French Lottery Commision to beat down my door.. Well, not really, but you get the idea. Typos just aren't my game, it's not worth the risk of losing all my domains. Asian idn I'm sure would not get the traffic as they just don't have the browser support yet, but Europeans do.

So if you violate a TM with a domain you happen to own - they take away all your domain names? How does that work exactly?

The company would contact the registrar to let them know they are pursueing a case so the registrar would not let you transfer out during the case.

So your account is frozen until a decision is made? But an adverse decision doesn't automatically strip the rest of your domains away from you right? That would be pretty harsh for an offense which may well be pretty innocent.

Nah, they don't let the domains in question be transfered while the dispute is occuring

I think it is far too risky for Americans to register trademarks. If i'm not mistakened, it is possible for the trademark owner to pursue legal channels outside ICANN for infringement of copyright and apply for punitive damages?

Maybe in .cn or .jp this would be the case (because of diff gov'ts) but in the u.s. where its more lax and icann has better control over .com without outsiders it would be a different story.

Usually the trademark holder will send a C&D to you to transfer the domain to them. They'll give you a window of time to do the transfer and usually they'll pay the registration fee you paid for it(Not more) . Sometimes they may also cc it to the registrar to make sure you don't transfer out. They usually will warn you and if you don't respond or don't come to an agreement they'll do a WIPO. Myspace.com and other big companies going after infringers have not gone around it.
