It looks as though ICANN are moving towards rationalising the drops and renewals process. It would appear that the current arrangements with Pool and Snapnames will be superceded by a General Exchange, which we all have some kind of access to.

kinda lame how ICANN can't give verisign the boot

If you see how much the ICANN ceo makes a year(200,000 and change) you can see why he doesn't care too much.

Will this cause domain prices to rise or fall?

Will this cause domain prices to rise or fall?

I think it will see them rise. The system will be seen as more transparent and more people will be concentrated at a single drop auction. The drop Auctions see more high level sells really than anywhere, even if the very top names seldom go there.

I have often wish I could put my portfolio into the Pool or Snapnames auctions. Even my drops seem get shovelled up there when they are totally neglected at Sedo. It may become one of the main ways that sellers use to dispose of their names. If that were the case, then it would attract even more buyers, of course it could increase the supply of domains for the Auctions, which might put a brake on prices. At the end of the day its down to market forces, but an efficient market must be good if you are a Seller. Not so good if you are trying to arbitrage the market.
