"Amazon dot com.jp "
Nice find RD, maybe queing up for Vista-IE7
They have registered their domain thru 2014...doesn't seem like many individuals do that.
Especially with a TM. This website is hosted out of Australia I think?

who.is is showing the .jp registrar in California

I was going to go to bed 4 hours ago until RD told me a little Yahoo search pointer ;) Been up checking out all the IDNs on the net and checking alexa/ovt. This stuff is awesome, lots of cool asian websites already up and running full speed.

[QUOTE=ChinaStar]Appreciate you trying to prove a point we are all trying to drive, however I don't believe this is an officially sanctioned site. We use:
www.amazon.co.jp

This ascii/Japanese language Amazon website is hosted out of the US so raises the question
why their IDN site would not be run by the same group.

So this is not an Amazon site but it run the Amazon sales software that can be put on independent sites.

If you were in Japan and you ordered from this site you would get you goods from Amazon, right?

It gets very complicated with these big multinationals. All Google Spiders and all their databases are hosted in the US.

I believe it is probably an affiliate program, like a legitimate Amway.

It has alot of links to Amazon so i'm assuming you would get your products from Amazon.

Whether or not Amazon knows that their products are being sold from an IDN based business is another issue.

アマゾンドットコム looks a bit but that is actually what Amazon.co.jp has written on its own website!

on their official amazon.co.jp website?

Yes, it has a couple of spaces in it but yes that is what they have.

I am not sure how Amazon are going to feel about affiliates getting quite so close to their brand.

Just from the search and registration process of .JP domains over the last 2 weeks, I can say that alot of individuals are going to be running into some WIPO hassles this year.

Just picked up Immigration.jp, people havent been doing their HW ;)

In regards to the amazon associate program:

http://affiliate.amazon.co.jp/gp/associates/join/main.html/ref=cs_gw_bn_as_1_1

Those with high search rankings might want to give it a try!

Wow, Number 3 on yahoo.co.jp. Suggesting once again that yahoo.co.jp is handing out rankings based on domain name alone. There are only 2 external links to this site in yahoo and they aren't from Amazon.

This is definately not Amazon the company judging by the look and the source code from this site. All the information of the source code leads back to http://www.shinobi.jp/ Even the little ninja code box in the upper left corner gives it away. The other urls within the source code are http://x5.otoshiana.com and http://rentalurl.net all point back to shinobi.jp.

With a jp overture of 13.274 for アマゾンドットコム I'm sure they are making a decent dime using their affiliate links.

They are even ranked #18 in yahoo.co.jp for アマゾン which has a jp overture of 2.000.249.

Amazon I'm sure would not be so happy about this if they knew the situation considering they aren't even using their own japanese url that they do own for their site.

This is some individual who by the look of him doesn't realize or maybe doesn't care that Amazon could shut him down in a heartbeat. I say he doesn't realize it because he stupidly took out the domain till 2014.

First - he realizes that lots of japanese search for amazon by looking up "amazondotcom" on yahoo. He's squatting without defense.

Second - he knows that amazon affiliates (the "first" and best known affiliate program in the world) will allow him to monetize pages.

Third - he doesn't bother to read the affiliates terms of use and violates them again and again.

He isn't aware that in the U.S. google will always beat amazon at monetization on any given webpage. My feeling is that this guy could be making more money with adsense than relying on amazon even in Japan.

I don't know about the laws in japan where this shinobi.jp is based but Amazon can first take all his earnings away from him and then not only sue him for cybersquatting which last time I checked was around $100,000 dollars USD in the courts but also seek damages to their reputation. Considering the hosting is US based Japan laws will definitely not apply.

This person definitely doesn't care about google and the us. As google's not the one giving him rankings and or money. Google would definitely shut down his adsense for cybersquatting without question.

As ugly as this is, it's still a sign that proves IDN urls hands down are getting ranked quicker and faster in search engines with higher spots in Yahoo than ascii domains.
