Here's my stats for Germany. I get about 15% as much traffic from Germany as I do from France, so the potential for error will be greater.
Germany:
Week # IE6 IE7 FF (%ages)
5-2007 35 24 41
4-2007 37 22 41
3-2007 37 22 41
2-2007 40 21 40
1-2007 39 20 41
52-2006 44 19 37
51-2006 45 17 38
50-2006 45 14 41
49-2006 46 13 41
48-2006 53 10 37
47-2006 52 8 39
46-2006 56 7 38
45-2006 56 6 38
44-2006 56 5 38
43-2006 60 3 37
The increase in traffic during that period to my mainstay German IDN name has been negligible. BUT they might be because it's to do with a product that might be seasonal in nature so there may be a traffic increase overal, but it won't show on that name until the same time next year.
The heavy use of Firefox in German (which hijacks keyword type-in's and sends them to Google) is affecting traffic.
All in all, it looks like you need to rank well in Google (.de?) to get significant traffic to German IDN names. That's assuming Firefox/Win german version redirects to google.de
It would be nice to know what it does exactly.
