Many major chinese sites are hosted in HK, so effectively, China has more hosted domains than Canada and the UK.

You are right, this is what Giant talked about with China having a greater need for more total domains than most every other country. Their annual growth increase in domains will probably be the greatest over the next decade as well.

Japan's figure looks particularly low considering they have similar economy size as the states. Perhaps this suggests that Japanese and Chinese domains are gold mine!
