A bit underwhelming really. Half the results on this list are less than my commissionless IDN transactions struck whilst listening to the bloody thing.

Why "privacy" at that price.
Not a word I would think would be highly searched or typed in.
They others make more sense.

The auction runs thru next Wednesday March 14th at 12 noon. So...still some time to go.

Just a sidenote about the silent auction:
QUOTE FROM MONIKER: For the current auction we had over 50,000 domains submitted. Only 3,300 were chosen.

Wow...they are some nice names.

Still chicken feed for what they'll be worth in 5 - 10 years...don't you reckon?

(ESPECIALLY porn.com... )

Yes, top Generics in ASCII will go up many times, but 2117 money isn't 2007 money. I think there will be a shake out in ASCII but only as people start to understand that quality matters.

Porn and other Adult areas are higher risk than some generics, but the rewards are clearly high at the moment.

3 letters for nearly a mill?

Is this normal?

What I am finding a little difficult to grasp is why sophisticated bidders would come out and put their cards on the table with the Auction still having time to run!

Yes, it's "Health Maintenance Organization". There should be an enormous amount of type-in on that domain from americans.

Seconding what is said above, that is a massively HUGE term in the U.S. for health insurance.

Simply amazing! Never thought "silent" could race ahead of the main event. Would this mark the end of live auction?

If I have read the current "silent auction" bids correctly there are some massive numbers coming out Porn.com currently over 8 million , Naked.com over 2 million, Privacy.com at 1.5 mill etc.

I am still trying to get clarification, the list was posted by RJ - on a NP's thread and there has been no overnight changes - I think! , http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/302257-silent-action-traffic-west-running-commentary.html , I suppose it could be reserve prices but I have a name on there that is certainly not my reserve.

And as RD said earlier, seems to be an early show of hands if this is the case! Also the figures are from the list of names that went from "live" to "silent" - the "silent auction" names have only a few bids- all seems a bit weird.

Will keep checking.

:)

Have recieved confirmation that they are reserve prices - reserve selling price + Monikers fee - now it makes sense - but why list reserve prices!

Looked too good to be true - it was.

So another example of institutionalised failure then?

It would seem that people don't even know how the bidding is panning out!

Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me!

Low reserves requires confidence in a robust market.

All I am seeing at the moment is shambles!

End user sale, I think.

HMO dot com is worth that money for any HMO to have as a domain. Health insurance is privatized here and one of the biggest industries around. Well worth the money....

There are few names belong to one person. We were in the process of negotiating these names at 30%-50% of the final auction prices at the times moniker announced the auction. This guy immediately terminated negotiation with me and submitted names to moniker...
I am a loser here.

It is all down to ROI.

If you think you have identified investments in ASCII that are going to outpace IDN, then go for it!

Personally, I am dumping all mine, but they were never that hot anyway!

I however agree with RD that idn stands for better investment opportunity.

Well, maybe euro or numeric ascii, but i think that anglo ASCII.coms have reached peak value - of cos, it's always possible to get a bargain price and flip immediately, or buy from an end user that doesn't know about PPC/adsense.

Another consideration - me got burnt with the depreciating USD - even if the names i bought a year plus ago maintained their prices, i'll still lose 12-13%. From the going trend, and the speculated interest rate drop coming august, we have not seen the worst! Fact is i've been trying to liquidate my ascii buys the past one year but couldn't get the price, but the longer i drag, the smaller the dollar becomes!

If your money in denominated in yen or rmb, you still got hope, but time is running out as the revaluation will be inevitable.

With that I concur! But if an ascii comes along that looks OK I reg and now always check the translations in a couple of languages.
